INSCOP opinion poll: 65.7pct of Romanians would prefer an experienced, pro-Western president

More than 67% of Romanians would prefer the future president of the country to be a pro-Western candidate, according to an INSCOP opinion poll conducted between October 11 and 18.At the same time, more than 70.6% of the interviewees declared that they would rather prefer a candidate with experience, while 44.5% of the survey participants would prefer that the future president be someone independent of the parties, according to Inscop Research."The vast majority of Romanians declare that they would like a pro-Western president with experience. Regarding the relationship with the political parties, Romanians are divided into two relatively equal camps, half declaring that they would prefer a president independent of parties, while the other half said that they would prefer a party's representative as president. The generic options of the Romanians that define the main traits of the president's profile are relevant especially for the second round of the presidential elections," stated the head of INSCOP Research, Remus Stefureac.According to the collected data, 67.5% of Romanians would prefer the future president to be a pro-Western candidate, while 17.1% would rather prefer an anti-Western candidate. Also, 3.9% of the respondents say that this aspect does not matter, while 11.5% did not know or did not answer.Respondents who would rather prefer a pro-Western candidate are those who would vote especially for Mircea Geoana and Elena Lasconi, the USR (Save Romania Union) voters, young people under 30, people with higher education, residents of Bucharest or large urban areas. The respondents who would rather prefer an anti-Western candidate are those who would vote for George Simion, AUR (Alliance for the Union of Romanians) voters, those with primary education and TikTok users.At the same time, 70.6% of the respondents said that they would rather prefer someone with experience, while 24.5% say that they would rather prefer someone younger. Also, 3.7% of the interviewees say that this aspect does not matter, and 1.2% did not know or did not answer.Also, 44.5% of the survey participants would prefer the future president of Romania to be someone independent of parties, while 41.9% would rather prefer the representative of a political party for the first position in the state. 7.1% said that this aspect does not matter, and 6.5% did not know or did not answer.The opinion poll was commissioned by the daily newspaper 'Libertatea,' using the CATI method, based on a simple stratified sample of 1,106 people, representative of the significant socio-demographic categories (sex, age, occupation) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania, aged 18 years and over. The maximum allowed error of the data is plus/minus 2.95%, at a confidence level of 95%.
