INSCOP Survey: 97.7 percent of the Romanians say they have heard about the Paris attacks

Over 97 percent of the Romanians have heard about this November's terror attacks in France and 40.3 percent of the respondents consider they were revengeful acts, shows an INSCOP survey sent on Thursday.Thus, 97.7 percent of the Romanians say they have heard about the Paris attacks, whereas 1.4 percent of the respondents reported not having heard about the tragedy that hit the capital of France on Nov. 13 - 14, and 1 percent of the polled said they don't know or don't answer the question. A chunk of 23.1 percent of the surveyed said there is little chance that Romania is targeted by Islamic State terrorist attacks, 13.6 percent consider the probability is very low, 24.7 percent consider Romania runs neither small nor high chances to become a target for terrorist attacks; 9.6 percent checked the "very high" probability option and 22.2 percent the "high probability" variant. 6.9 percent of the polled chose the "I don't know / I don't answer" variant. The respondents have shared opinions when it comes to identifying the reasons why ISIS decided to hit Paris, or if Romania could be a target for such attacks by the Islamic State, the survey revealed. A chunk of 40.3 percent of the respondents said the Paris attacks were a revenge for the air strikes against Syria's Islamic State, 27.6 percent said the terrorists want to impose Islamic law in Europe, 11.1 percent consider the tragic incident was because Muslims are being persecuted or discriminated against in Europe, and 9.4 percent point the finger at old historic causes (Western Europe states have had colonies in northern Africa and the Middle East), show the authors of the survey. 2.1 percent of the polled identify another cause, while non-responses represent 9.6 percent.More than 32 percent of the respondents said European states should act just the same as by now, while 24.6 percent consider land forces should be deployed to Syria and Iraq to dismantle ISIS. 24.3 percent consider the Arab states in the region should be offered support to get actively involved in the combat of the Islamic State; 18.9 percent are non-responses. The INSCOP Research barometer was conducted at the commission of "Adevarul" daily between November 25 - December 2, 2015, on a 1,071-strong sample representative of Romania's population aged 18 and over. The maximum permitted error is plus / minus 3 pct for a confidence level of 95 pct. The method applied was the opinion poll based on a questionnaire administered by interviewers at the homes of the respondents.
