Iohannis: Ensuring energy security, shared objective of Romanian-American strategic partnership

President Klaus Iohannis congratulated the announcement of US president Joe Biden, on Twitter, on Sunday evening, regarding the financing design studies of small modular reactors (SMR) in Romania, specifying that ensuring energy security represents a common objective of the Romanian-American strategic partnership.The US Government, along with the NuScale Power LLC (Tigard, Oregon) American company, will offer 14 million dollars for supporting design and engineering studies, in order for Romania to implement an SMR technology power plant, the first of this type, the White House announced on its website on Sunday.Based on the US Government's efforts, including the support from the Department of Trade and the technical assistance from the United States Trade and Development Agency (USDTA), this investment aims to mobilize a multi billion dollar effort and to highlight US ingenuity in the advanced nuclear sector, to accelerate the transition towards clean energy, to create thousands of jobs and to consolidate Europe's energy security, by observing at the same time the highest standards for safety, security and nuclear nonproliferation, the White House press release reads.
