Romanian President Klaus Iohannis attended the opening of the United Nations Conference on Climate Changes in Paris on Monday, on which occasion he said the Agreement in this field should be legally binding and the participating countries should make a proper contribution.According to a release issued by the Presidential Administration, Iohannis spoke in an address about the "major challenge" posed at a global level by the climate changes and argued in favour of common actions in this respect. He underlined that it is important for the Paris Agreement on climate changes to be legally binding, to ensure the participation of all the parties to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Changes and include commitments to curb the emissions from all the involved parties. At the same time, the Romanian president stressed the Agreement should allow the participating states to make an adequate contribution to the collective effort of maintaining the global average temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius, in a manner that should correctly reflect the responsibilities and capabilities they have available (including in terms of the financial contributions), while at the same time creating opportunities for sustainable development for all. Iohannis underscored that the global transition to a low-carbon emission economy should be part of our legacy for the future generations, the President's Office said.
