November 6, 2018

Italy’s National Anti-mafia Prosecutor Federico Cafiero De Raho met with prosecutor-in-chief of the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) Felix Banila, in view of establishing the priorities of both institutions in their transnational organised crime investigations. According to a release of the DIICOT, the first meeting regarding the analyse of the cooperation activity with the National Anti-mafia Directorate was held at the DIICOT headquarters, based on a cooperation agreement signed in Rome on 5 December 2012. The meeting was organised with the support of the Italian Interior Attaché Bureau in Bucharest. The Italian delegation headed by National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor Federico Cafiero De Raho was welcomed by prosecutor-in-chief of the DIICOT Felix Banila, together with representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice (PICCJ) and the National Agency for the Management of Frozen Assets (ANABI). The meeting aimed to establish the priorities for the two specialised directorates in investigating transnational organised crime, tackling a common strategy to combat this phenomenon, as well as the measures that can be taken for dismantling and seizing the criminal product. The next meeting is scheduled to take place in the spring of 2019 in Italy.
