Jan - May trade deficit widens by 11 pct to EUR 12.3 bln

  Romania's FOB/CIF trade balance deficit as of end-May stood at EUR 12.288 billion, by EUR 1.230 billion higher (+11.1 pct) compared to the same period of the previous year, as FOB exports dropped 2.9 percent to EUR 38.236 billion, and CIF imports inched up 0.2 percent to EUR 50.824 billion, shows data released on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).The product groups with a significant share of the country's trade in the reporting period were machines and transport equipment (47.1 percent for exports and 36.5 percent for imports) and other manufactured products (29.6 percent for exports and 28.5 percent for imports, respectively).Intra-EU27 trade exchanges over January - May 2024 amounted to EUR 27.999 billion on the outbound and EUR 37.511 billion on the inbound, representing 72.7 percent of total exports and 73.8 percent of total imports, respectively.Extra-EU27 trade exchanges over the same period amounted to EUR 10.537 billion for exports and EUR 13.313 billion for imports, representing 27.3 percent of total exports and 26.2 percent of total imports.FOB exports in May 2024 totaled EUR 7.241 billion, and CIF imports stood at EUR 10.213 billion, resulting in a deficit of EUR 2.971 billion. Year-over-year, exports this May were 16.2 percent lower, and imports shrank 5.6 percent.
