Joint meeting of Romanian and Moldovan governments in Bucharest. PM Dancila: Pro-European road, only solution for Moldova, Moldovans’ prosperity

November 22, 2018

The pro-European road is the only solution for the Republic of Moldova and for the prosperity of the Moldovan people, Romania’s Prime Minister Viorica Dancila said on Thursday at a joint news conference with her Moldovan counterpart Pavel Filip at the end of a joint meeting of the two national governments. “We discussed with the prime minister, with the members of the government of the Republic of Moldova the latest developments in the bilateral, economic and trade relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova. That provided us the opportunity to see how to boost relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, have a sectoral approach to co-operation between the two countries, talk about concrete projects that we are implementing and a roadmap with responsible people, and at the same time to see how to stimulate our projects already in progress,” said Dancila. She also mentioned the signing of several bilateral agreements and documents in various areas. “Which shows that we have made important steps going forward, and what we have begun today, we must continue at a future stage,” Dancila said. She mentioned that her talks with Filip were also aimed at boosting investment. “The fact that we have an example, and I mean the Vest Mold Transgaz, makes us believe that we can have other objectives, that we can have other investment that will tighten the relationships between the two countries,” said Dancila. The meeting also focused on Romania assuming the six-month rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union on January 1, 2019. “We talked about the reforms that the Republic of Moldova should make, about the Republic of Moldova’s European Union membership, and Romania is willing to provide expertise and to provide experts for these reforms and to support the Republic of Moldova on a pro-European road. We believe the pro-European road is the only solution for the Republic of Moldova and the prosperity of Moldovans,” Dancila said. She added that ongoing bilateral projects were looked into for the latest development. “Another discussion is about co-operation among ministers. We believe that a much closer cooperation through the participation of Romanian ministers at events or discussions in Chisinau would very much boost and bring even closer our countries,” Dancila said.   Moldovan PM Filip: Republic of Moldova and Romania share a special relationship The Republic of Moldova and Romania have a special relationship, they share “a common linguistic space, a common cultural space, and a common realm of values,” Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip said on Thursday in Bucharest. “I am pleased to be here in Bucharest, attending a new joint meeting of the Moldovan and Romanian Governments. I’d like to use this opportunity to congratulate the new colleagues who joined the Government of Romania: may you be successful in this important mandate. Standing before you is the Chisinau Government after having undergone the reform of the central public administration. We are less, but in my view, this line-up is just as, or even more efficient than before,” said Pavel Filip at the beginning of the joint meeting of the Governments of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. “True, our countries are connected by historical ties, I think it would be too little to say that we have good or excellent relations, because the relationship between the Republic of Moldova and Romania goes beyond this scope, we share a common linguistic space, a common cultural space and a common realm of values, this is why I believe our relationship is special. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to thank once again for Romania’s constant help. I remember the beginning of the mandate, in 2016, when Romania offered us a helping hand, I am referring to the EUR 150 million worth of loan, I am referring to the beginning of 2016, and everything else, not just under the bilateral relationship. Romania’s support for our European platform and roadmap is highly important, and the more so important at international level, we also very much appreciate and are grateful for your vote in the UN General Assembly,” Filip told the Cabinet members in Bucharest.   PM Filip  announces that Romanians and Moldovans won’t pay roaming on December 1   Citizens of Romania and the Republic of Moldova won’t pay roaming tariffs on December 1, which is the Greater Union Day, Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip made the announcement on Thursday, adding that this is a “symbolic step ahead.” “We want to have a common communication space, we want our citizens to no longer feel like they are crossing from one country to another and to be able to talk over the phone without paying for roaming tariffs. I am glad that I agreed as a first symbolic step that our citizens won’t pay roaming on December 1, which is the Greater Union Day,” stated Pavel Filip, in a joint statement with Prime Minister Viorica Dancila, at the end of the joint meeting of the two countries’ government, organised at the Victoria Palace in Bucharest. He added that the necessary procedures for this to happen have already started in Moldova. “We will sign this agreement to eliminate the roaming tariffs and I want to thank once again Mrs Prime Minister for her openness and for having this initiative, for it was her idea,” said Pavel Filip.
