JusMin Marinescu talks with Moldovan counterpart about combating cross-border crime, phenomena of extremism, disinformation

Justice Minister Radu Marinescu met on Thursday at the Ministry's headquarters with his counterpart from the Republic of Moldova, Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, context in which they discussed, among other topics, the fight against cross-border crime, extremism and disinformation.According to a Justice Ministry release sent on Thursday, within the meeting, both parties highlighted the good cooperation between the two countries in the area of justice and expressed their desire to strengthen it by identifying new, firm areas for joint action. Discussions covered issues related to legislation, European standards in the justice sector and cross-border cooperation."The meeting agenda included key topics such as the digitalization of the judiciary to facilitate and improve the efficiency of justice, enhanced operational cooperation between the two states, improvements in the handling of civil and criminal case requests, electronic signature-based communication of judicial documents and the mutual recognition of civil court rulings," the release said.Moreover, the quoted source mentioned that the two officials discussed aspects related to the professional training of magistrates and judicial system staff, including personnel from the penitentiary systems and they underscored their shared interest in intensifying experience exchanges and organizing joint training programmes. These initiatives aim to contribute to the enhancement of professional expertise and the strengthening of the legal culture in both systems."Regarding cooperation in civil and criminal matters, the importance of organizing and conducting such cooperation in accordance with the international commitments assumed by Romania and the Republic of Moldova was emphasized, with a focus on combating cross-border crime as well as extremism and disinformation," according to the Ministry of Justice release.According to the release, Radu Marinescu reiterated Romania's firm commitment to supporting the progress of the judicial system in the Republic of Moldova, in order to achieve European standards.
