KazMunayGas Chairman discusses energy sector cooperation prospects with Romanian Prime Minister

March 13, 2025

Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC KazMunayGas, Askhat Khassenov, met today with the Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu, in Bucharest.   Both parties confirmed the importance of strengthening the Kazakh-Romanian economic cooperation considering the activity of KMG International (Rompetrol), a subsidiary company of KMG in Romania. KMG International is among the top five largest taxpayers and one of the largest employers in the country .   Despite the current challenges in the international energy market, Kazakhstan remains a reliable partner and a key supplier of petroleum products, contributing to the energy security.   “Romania is our most important partner in the European Union, which is confirmed by substantial oil supplies and KMG's role in the domestic refining industry. Over time, Petromidia’s refining capacity has grown to 5.5 million tons annually. The refinery is among the most advanced in the area, with an 88% yield of white petroleum products”, stated Askhat Khassenov, Chairman of the Management Board of KazMunayGas.   Also, aspects of the investment climate, as well as ensuring reliable and sustainable operation of KazMunayGas assets in Romania were discussed.   The Chairman of the Management Board of KMG also met today with Sebastian Burduja, the Romanian Minister of Energy. The parties talked about potential avenues and prospects for further cooperation in the oil and gas field.  (Photo:JSC NC KazMunayGas)
