MAE summons Russian ambassador Kuzmin

May 26, 2022

The Romanian Foreign Ministry (MAE) has summoned ambassador of the Russian Federation in Bucharest Valery Kuzmin on Wednesday where the diplomat had a meeting with top strategic affairs official Iulian Fota.According to MAE, Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu ordered the summoning of the Russian diplomat over the publication on the website of the diplomatic mission of an article called "About NATO barking at Russia's borders and the main source of misinformation" and other statements by the embassy.During the meeting, Fota pointed out that the Russian mission's repeated use of "inappropriate, offensive and provocative" language against Romania and NATO, an alliance of which Romania is a member state as a result of its fully-owned democratic decision, is "unacceptable."It was mentioned that on April 22, MAE sent a verbal note expressing its disagreement, in writing, in the strongest terms, over statements posted on the website of the Russian diplomatic mission on the war in Ukraine, called "On war and peace in Ukraine".The Romanian official also drew attention to the "dehumanising and unrealistic way" in which the war in Ukraine - "for which the Russian side has full responsibility" - is described, and reiterated the call for maximum restraint in the public approach on this issue, avoiding provocative attitudes and messages from the Embassy of the Russian Federation.Fota once again warned the Russian side that such conduct of public communication reflected "a consistently unconstructive approach to bilateral relations by the embassy" and called for public messages to be kept within the limits of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, according to MAE.  (Photo: Facebook)
