MAI:Enhanced security in the Black Sea region, strategic priority for Romania and Turkey

Romania and Turkey regard enhanced security in the Black Sea region as a strategic priority, Romania's Minister of Internal Affairs, Catalin Predoiu, and his counterpart from the Republic of Turkey, Ali Yerlikaya, underlined during a telephone discussion."The two officials stressed that ensuring greater security in the Black Sea region is a strategic priority for Romania and Turkey, both states sharing the objective of strengthening operational cooperation and promoting a safe, stable and predictable environment," the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) said in a press release sent on Friday.The discussion formed part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of internal affairs, including at a strategic level, for the benefit of citizens in both states and to reinforce regional security."The ministers reviewed the state of cooperation in internal affairs, both bilaterally and multilaterally, noting the recent momentum in strengthening collaboration in key areas. The discussion reconfirmed the importance attached to combating cross-border crime, illegal migration, human trafficking, organised crime and drug trafficking, as well as all matters concerning the security of citizens of the two states, in the current international security context and given the proximity to conflict zones," the cited source informs.The two officials reaffirmed the importance of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and Turkey, emphasising the role of the Republic of Turkey in ensuring security in the Black Sea region and the Balkans. The high potential for cooperation was highlighted, both in the economic sphere and in terms of regional stability and security."Mutual respect was also expressed for the professionalism of the operational structures of the two ministries, and a clear signal was sent regarding the importance Romania and Turkey attach to cooperation in the field of Internal Affairs," further reads the release.It was agreed that constant dialogue between the structures of the two ministries will be maintained and that joint efforts to strengthen operational cooperation in areas of mutual interest will continue.
