Market services provided to the population, gross series, recorded a 9.1% decrease in turnover in the first six months of this year compared with the same period last year, due to declines in gambling activities, hairdressing services and hotel and restaurant activities.According to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Friday, turnover in gambling and other recreational activities fell 16%, in hairdressing and other beauty treatment activities by 13.9%, in hotel and restaurant activities by 12% and in washing and dry-cleaning of textile and fur products by 1.2%.By contrast, travel agency and tour operator activities advanced 17.4%.On a workday and seasonally adjusted basis, market services provided to the population fell 8.4% in January-June 2026.In June this year, turnover in market services provided to the population increased by 4.3% month on month in the gross series, driven by increases in hotel and restaurant activities (+6.4%) and travel agency and tour operator activities (+3.5%). Declines were recorded in hairdressing and other beauty treatment services (-2%), washing and dry-cleaning of textile and fur products (-1.8%) and gambling and other recreational activities (-0.5%).On a workday and seasonally adjusted basis, turnover in the sector dropped 2.3%.Compared with June last year, turnover in market services provided to the population fell by 9.3% in the gross series, as a result of declines in gambling and other recreational activities (-17%), hotel and restaurant activities (-11.9%) and hairdressing and other beauty treatment services (-8.9%).Increases were recorded in washing and dry-cleaning of textile and fur products (+8.9%) and travel agency and tour operator activities (+6%).On a workday and seasonally adjusted basis, market services provided to the population recorded a 10.5% decline in turnover.
