Meeting of Romanian Defence heads with Canadian Chief of Defence Staff

The Minister of National Defence, Nicolae Ciuca, and the head of the Defence General Staff, Lieutenant General Daniel Petrescu, have met, on Wednesday, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defence (MApN), with the Chief of Defence Staff from Canada, General Wayne Eyre, during the visit that the Canadian official is conducting to Romania.During the meeting, the parties analysed the security situation in the extended area of the Black Sea and the Western Balkans, evaluated the joint activities and proposed concrete ways to extend the cooperation relations at the Allied and bilateral levels. The discussions of the officials focused on increasing the participation in training activities, on the implementation of NATO measures to increase the response and deterrence capacity in the region and on the consolidation of interoperability between Romanian and Canadian forces.Minister Ciuca presented an evaluation of the current situation in the Black Sea region, the stage of implementation of measures subsumed to the tailored Forward Presence (tFP), developed as a response to the threats in the region, where Canada has a consistent contribution. Furthermore, the Romanian official thanked the Canadian partner for the involvement of the Royal Canadian Air Force in air police missions, which represent "a good exercise to develop the response and deterrence capacity and to consolidate the interoperability of the two armies."Another subject on the agenda of discussions was represented by cooperation within the UN, Romania assuming a contribution to the MINUSMA mission in Mali, context in which the Romanian minister thanked the Canadian official for support offered in the pre-deployment and mission takeover stages.The head of Romania's Defence General Staff, Lieutenant General Daniel Petrescu thanked General Wayne Eyre for the contribution of Canadian servicemen in the North Atlantic Alliance command structures on Romanian territory.The visit to Romania of the Canadian Chief of Defence Staff takes place in the context of his meeting with servicemen in the Canadian detachment deployed at the Mihail Kogalniceanu Military Base in Constanta. General Wayne Eyre met, on September 27 and 28, with the Canadian detachment, formed of 140 servicemen (pilots and technical staff). For a period of three months, together with Romanian Air Force pilots (flying F-16 Fighting Falcon and MiG-21 LanceR aircraft), the Canadian servicemen (with six CF-188 Hornet aircraft) are executing Enhance Air Policing under NATO command.The agenda of the Canadian Chief of Defence Staff included a meeting with the servicemen of the Multinational Division South-East command in Bucharest.  (Photo:https://www.mapn.ro/fotodb/20210929/aaf)
