Minister Odobescu attends Foreign Affairs Council meeting, Russia's aggression against Ukraine on agenda of talks

Foreign Affairs Minister Luminita Odobescu is taking part in the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the EU Member States in Luxembourg on Monday, where they will discuss Russia's aggression against Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, developments in Georgia and the Great Lakes region.The European foreign ministers will also have an informal exchange of views with their counterparts from the Western Balkans during a working lunch, according to a press release sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) on Sunday.According to the cited source, the discussions on Russia's aggression against Ukraine will focus on recent developments on the ground and the support the EU should provide to Ukraine, especially in the military field.They will also discuss new restrictive measures against Russia and Belarus, the state of EU-Ukraine security commitments and the assessment of the Ukraine Peace Summit (Switzerland, June 15-16, 2024).As regards the situation in the Middle East, talks will further focus on "the perspective of relaunching the political process for a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region and the ways the EU can contribute".At an informal lunch with partners from the Western Balkans, the MAE also notes that there will be an exchange of views on the impact of the current geopolitical and security context on the region, in particular on increasing resilience in the face of hybrid threats, avoiding circumvention of EU sanctions against Russia, and the importance of cooperation and good neighborly relations in the region.Discussions on developments in Georgia will take place in the context of the adoption by the Georgian legislature of the "foreign agents" law.With regard to the situation in the Great Lakes region, ministers will discuss ways in which the EU could assume a greater role in strengthening stability and overcoming the current crisis situations in the region, the MAE press release further mentions.
