Minister Tanczos: We launch car scrappage program in February, with a budget of over 1.2 billion lei

February 10, 2022

The Rabla Clasic and Rabla Plus car scrappage programs will be launched in early February and will have a budget of 1.2 billion lei in 2022, and the implementation of the two programs is planned, for the first time, for three years, the Minister of Environment, Tanczos Barna, announced on Thursday in a press conference. These programs aim to get at least 250,000 cars older than 15 years out of service by 2026. We will ensure in 2022 the largest budget that Rabla Clasic and Rabla Plus have ever had and this budget will be over 1.2 billion lei, the minister of environment said.He explained that, in order to reach the proposed goal for 2026, the scrapping bonus has been increased, and in 2022 a maximum amount of 16,500 lei can be reached if the beneficiary hands over for scrapping two cars, both older than 15 years. It will also benefit from a premium of 3,000 lei for hybrid or 1,500 lei for low CO2 emissions."So the number of cars is increasing from one to two. Two cars can be handed over for scrapping for a new car bought. We will have a budget of at least 1.24 billion lei. In 2023 we will increase by 10% compared to 2022 and in 2024 we will increase it by another 10% compared to 2023. Thus, 2024 will be the first year when the budget of Rabla Plus will exceed one billion lei, given that we will gradually reduce the budget allocated for Rabla Clasic, but without falling below the budget of 2021. And in 2024, the budget for Rabla Clasic will be higher than in 2021," Tanczos said.
