Ministry approves energy efficiency projects funded under Swiss Contribution

Romania's Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration (MDLPA) organised a first meeting of the committee for the "Programme for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy", during which projects for funding were approved, Development Minister Cseke Attila said on Thursday."This programme is a major opportunity for localities in Romania to invest in energy efficiency, emission reduction and the use of renewable energy. The selected projects will directly contribute to improving the quality of life of citizens and to the green transition of local communities," Cseke is quoted as saying in a press statement.The programme is financed under the Swiss Contribution for Economic and Social Cohesion and has a total budget of 70,588,235.29 Swiss francs (CHF), of which CHF 60,000,000 is a Swiss grant, and CHF 10,588,235.29 is a national contribution.The programme funds investment in large cities, smaller and disadvantaged communities, the development of managerial and technical capacity for cities and communities, as well as the exchange of know-how and technical assistance from Swiss partners.During the meeting, a final list of projects was approved proposed for funding, with financing agreements to be signed for the following projects:- Energy efficiency and modernisation of public buildings in Brasov - RAT Administrative Headquarters;- In-depth energy renovation of the Energy Technical Collegiate High School in Sibiu;- Waste incinerator for the production of energy from municipal organic waste for the production of biogas and its use in a cogeneration plant in Baia Mare;- Turning the Johan Ettinger Theoretical High School in Satu Mare into a net zero energy building (NZEB);- Update the energy efficiency improvement programme in the city of Piatra Neamt in 2021-2027;- Modernisation and energy efficiency of the swimming pool within the Targoviste Swimming Tourist Complex;- Demolition of Building 2 and extension and modernisation of the Micesti secondary school in Alba-Iulia;- Weatherising the outpatient building of the Prof. Dr. Eduard Apetrei Hospital in Buhusi;- Modernisation and energy efficiency of the Sfantu Gheorghe Home for the Elderly in Oltenita;- Energy rehabilitation of the Ioan Stanatiev Sports Hall at Campia Turzii;- Increasing the energy efficiency of the building of the Ioan Popescu Pedagogical High School of Barlad.The meeting was attended by officials of the Swiss Contribution Office in Bucharest, the Ministry of Development, the Ministry of Finance - as the national coordination unit; the Ministry of European Investment and Projects as the paying authority and responsible for the implementation of the component "Development of managerial and technical capacity for cities and communities" - implementing the European Energy Prize.
