Moldova, Romania and Ukraine sign agreement to combat Russian disinformation

August 6, 2024

Moldova, Romania and Ukraine have signed an agreement on joint cooperation to combat Russian disinformation. The joint agreement was signed during a tripartite meeting of the foreign ministers of the three countries in the Moldovan capital, Chisinau, on July 5.   Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told reporters after the meeting that Russia's "hybrid war arsenal" is not only being used against Ukraine, whose invasion Moscow launched in 2022, but also against Moldova.   The meeting between Kulebas and the foreign ministers of Moldova and Romania, Mihai Popsoi and Luminita Odobescu, respectively, was the third between them since 2022.   Last month, the US State Department said the Kremlin "repeatedly uses lies and manipulation to create false pretexts for its unjustified occupation" of Ukraine, as well as "to attempt to undermine worldwide solidarity with the Ukrainian people." ".   The Kremlin denied claims that it was spreading disinformation and accused the West of engaging in "information terrorism".   Russia launched a full invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.   The West has taken harsh sanctions against it, while it is helping Ukraine with weapons.   Last month, the European Union also started negotiations for Ukraine's membership in its ranks.
