More than half of Romanians say they got involved in helping Ukrainian refugees

Approximately 52pct of Romanians say that they have been involved in supporting and helping Ukrainian refugees, and 61pct say they intend to get involved, according to a study by Reveal Marketing Research.According to the survey, eight out of ten respondents say they have done charitable work in the past year, particularly young people and people with medium and high incomes. When it comes to how they got involved, more than half (55pct) said they helped by donating clothes, medical supplies, non-perishable foodstuffs and other essential products, while 43pct said they helped by filling out the form through which they give 5pct of their income tax to a charitable cause.Romanians also donated money to humanitarian causes (38pct) and helped disadvantaged people in the community (31pct). Ranking last among the ways in which Romanians tried to help others was by volunteering with an NGO (13pct) and by doing political/social activism (8pct). The annual budget allocated by the people who choose to donate money is 453 lei. The allocated budget is high among active people aged between 35 and 44, but also among high-income people.According to the same survey, foodstuffs (72pct), accommodation services (70pct) and health care (55pct) are the categories of assistance considered to be the most important for refugees in Ukraine. To a greater extent, people over the age of 55 believe these types of assistance to be important.At the same time, six out of ten Romanians say they would offer housing for refugee accommodation if they had the necessary space, and 57pct say they would be willing to give their time voluntarily to help the situation of refugees in Ukraine.The Reveal Marketing Research study also aimed to assess the level of optimism and security regarding the future of Romania, but also of Ukraine, in the current context. Thus, almost half of the respondents (45pct) are pessimistic about the future and security of Romania.Regarding the situation in Ukraine, more than half of the respondents (55pct) are pessimistic about the future and security of Ukraine.The Reveal Marketing Research study was conducted online from March 7 to 10, 2022, on a representative sample for the population aged 18+, from urban and rural areas.
