Morocco's National Day to be celebrated with Andalusian music concert at Bucharest National Opera

August 6, 2025

Morocco's National Day will be celebrated with an extraordinary Andalusian music concert on July 30 at the Bucharest National Opera (ONB).According to a press release the ONB sent on Monday, the concert - scheduled for 5:30 PM - will feature the Arab-Andalusian Orchestra of Fez, performing for the first time in Bucharest.'This summer, Bucharest becomes the host of an exceptional cultural event. For the first time, the prestigious Arab-Andalusian Orchestra of Fez will perform an extraordinary concert in Romania, on the stage of the Bucharest National Opera, to celebrate the National Day of the Kingdom of Morocco. The event is an invitation into a sonic universe of rare beauty, where music becomes a bridge between civilizations and eras. Born in the golden age of Andalusia, this musical tradition - a subtle blend of Arab, Berber, Iberian, and Mediterranean influences - is a living relic of harmony among cultures,' the press release reads. At the heart of this experience is Maestro Mohammed Briouel - conductor, violinist, and world-renowned visionary. A recipient of Morocco's highest cultural honors, winner of the Edison Trophy in the Netherlands, and named Ambassador of Peace, Briouel is more than a performer: he is a guardian of heritage and a builder of bridges between worlds. His collaborations with Jewish and European artists have redefined the scope of Arab-Andalusian music, preserving its essence while opening it up to a new generation, the release also says.A special moment in the concert will pay tribute to Romanian teachers who, decades ago, taught music and fine arts in the Kingdom of Morocco.'These mentors, now in their eighties, left a lasting mark on Moroccan artistic education, contributing to a remarkable cultural exchange between the two countries. With this gesture, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Bucharest pays heartfelt tribute to a generation of educators who, through their talent and dedication, passed on a Romanian cultural treasure and opened doors to mutual understanding and appreciation through art,' the release adds. The Arab-Andalusian Orchestra of Fez, the oldest and most respected ensemble of its kind, brings this artistic treasure to life with remarkable authenticity, using traditional instruments and classical Arabic poetry inspired by Sufi mysticism, love, and moral reflection.Founded in 1946, the orchestra carries on the musical legacy of Fez, one of the last bastions of Andalusian music following the fall of Granada.Tickets are available at http://tickets.operanb.ro and at the Bucharest National Opera box office.
