National Day/US official Blinken: Romania's committment to security and democracy a model to follow in Europe

Romania's commitment to security and democracy in Europe represents a model for all nations to follow, said US secretary of state Antony Blinken on Sunday, in a message sent on the National Day of Romania celebrated on December 1 and published on the website of the US diplomatic mission in Bucharest."On behalf of the United States of America, I wish all Romanians to joyfully celebrate the anniversary of your great union, a historic moment from more than 100 years ago," said the high official.He conveyed that the United States is proud to collaborate with Romania in the process of modernising the army and in strengthening NATO's eastern flank.''Romania's support for Ukraine, by welcoming refugees and providing security assistance, has been essential in defending freedom against Russian aggression. At the same time, your leadership in facilitating access to global markets for Ukrainian grain has made a significant contribution to feeding the world," Blinken added.The ties between the United States and Romania, built over decades, continue to thrive, he added."We are pleased to expand our cooperation on the energy transition and commend Romania's commitment to increasing its solar, wind, and nuclear capacities, as well as to promoting regional interconnectivity. "The growth of our business, educational and cultural exchanges underlines the depth of our long-standing friendship," Antony Blinken said.He said his country is "proud" to collaborate with Romania, "to meet global challenges and ensure the prosperity and well-being of our peoples."
