National electricity consumption down 5.7pct in Romania Jan-Nov 2023

  National electricity consumption in Romania decreased by 5.7% in the first 11 months of 2023, y-o-y, to a total of 44.664 billion kWh, according to data published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).Commercial electricity consumption stood at 33.900 billion kWh, down 4.6%, while households used 8.6%, or 10.393 billion kWh, less electricity.At the same time, public lighting reported a decrease by 19.7%, to 370.2 million kWh, and technological self-consumption in networks and stations was 4.488 billion kWh, decreasing by 1.9%.According to INS data, electricity exports amounted to 10.426 billion kWh, up 3.884 billion kWh. Technological self-consumption in networks and stations was 4.488 billion kWh, down 88.6 million kWh.Between January 1 and November 30, 2023, primary energy sources decreased by 3%, and electricity sources increased by 1.8% y-o-y.The main primary energy sources in the first 11 months of 2023 totalled 30.049 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), down 933,000 toe y-o-y.Domestic production totalled 16.420 million toe, down 81,800 toe (-0.5%) y-o-y, and import was 13.629 million toe, down 851,200 toe (-5.9%).Thermal power stations generated 15.976 billion kWh of electricity, down 3.609 billion kWh (-18.4%). Hydropower plants generated 17.149 billion kWh of electricity, up 4.269 billion kWh (+33.1%), and nuclear power plants generated 10.176 billion kWh of electricity, up 111.3 million kWh (+1.1%).January 1 - November 30, 2023, wind power plants generated 6.930 billion kWh, which is an increase by 526.5 million kWh y-o-y, and photovoltaic installations gave 1.602 billion kWh, down 120.1 million kWh y-o-y.
