The number of companies that suspended their activity in 2025 stood at 19,586, up by 4.65% compared to the previous year, according to data published by the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).The highest number of companies suspending activity was recorded in Bucharest, with 2,368 firms (an increase of 5.15% compared to 2024), followed by the counties of Cluj, with 1,359 suspended companies (+16.95%), Iasi (915, +7.52%), Bihor (889, +11.12%), Brasov (827, +0.61%), Neamt (784, +23.08%) and Timis (753, +3.86%).Conversely, the fewest activity suspensions were recorded in the counties of Ialomita, with 107 (-13.01% compared to the previous year), Teleorman (115, -18.44%), Tulcea (128, -21.95%), Caras-Severin (130, -17.72%) and Covasna (131, -5.76%).According to the cited source, the sharpest increases in the number of activity suspensions were reported in the counties of Gorj (+41.79%), Bacau (+25.74%) and Dolj (+23.91%), while the most significant decreases were recorded in Dambovita (-26.24%), Tulcea (-21.95%) and Teleorman (-18.44%).By sector of activity, the highest number of suspensions was recorded in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, with 2,559 cases (-41.71% compared with 2024), followed by construction, with 1,057 (-37.38%), and professional, scientific and technical activities (1,026, -41.94%).In December 2025 alone, a total of 1,925 activity suspensions were reported, most of them in Bucharest (211) and in the counties of Cluj (132), Bihor (106), Brasov (93), Iasi (88) and Ilfov (80).
