The North Atlantic Council (NAC) will meet on June 10 in a session dedicated to Black Sea security at Romania’s request. The meeting will also address the incident involving a Russian Geran-2 drone that exploded on a residential apartment building in Galati. The request for the North Atlantic Council meeting was submitted before the Galati incident, amid Romania’s ongoing concerns about security in the Black Sea region, according to CaleaEuropean?.ro, citing Allied sources. Following the drone explosion on an apartment building in downtown Galati, Romanian authorities intend to raise the implications of the incident for the security of NATO’s eastern flank. Romania has already requested additional capabilities from its NATO partners, and consultations are currently underway with several countries that could help strengthen Romania’s air defense and counter-drone capabilities, according to the cited source. President Nicusor Dan announced that a technical report prepared by Romanian authorities had conclusively determined that the fragments recovered in Galati originated from a Russian-made Geran-2 drone. According to the president, the findings of the investigation will be shared with NATO and European Union allies.
