Net investments in national economy increase 16.6pct in 2023

 Net investments in the national economy amounted to 189.3 billion lei in 2023, an increase of 16.6% compared to the previous year, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Tuesday.The increase was recorded in all structural items: machinery (including means of transport) by 20.6%, new construction works by 16.8% and other expenditure by 4%.Most investments were in new construction works, with a total of 114.2 billion lei in the first ten months. An amount of 58.5 billion lei went to machinery and means of transport and 16.5 billion lei to other expenditure.In the fourth quarter of 2023, compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, net investment in the national economy increased 22.1%, with an increase of 37.1% in structural items: machinery (including transport equipment) and 23.8% in new construction works. Other expenditure decreased 16.4%.Net investments represent the expenses for the creation of new fixed assets, development, modernisation and reconstruction of existing ones, as well as the value of services related to the transfer of ownership of existing fixed assets and land taken over with payment from other units or from the population (notary fees, commissions, transport and handling expenses, etc.), says INS.
