New Polish trains to arrive in Romania by beginning of 2027

The Polish rolling stock maker Pojazdy Szynowe Pesa Bydgoszcz Spolka Akcyjna (PESA) will have to deliver to Romania 62 regional electric frames (RE-R) until the beginning of 2027 at the latest, which will run on 10 public service routes, the president of the Railway Reform Authority (ARF), Stefan Roseanu declared on Tuesday.The head of ARF Stefan Roseanu and the president of PESA, Krzysztof Zdziarski, signed on Tuesday, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Transport, the contract for the purchase of the 62 regional electric frames, in the presence of the Transport minister, Sorin Grindeanu, and the ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Romania, Pawel Soloch."Today we signed three contracts, because the auction was organized on three lots and, consequently, the 62 trains are under the auspices of three contracts, each with approximately 20 trains. The trains will run on 10 public service routes in Romania," stated Roseanu.The delivery term of the first train is 24 months from the signing of the contract, and the delivery of the entire batch of 62 trains will be carried out within 36 months, to which is added the maintenance period of 15 years.The president of PESA, Krzysztof Zdziarski, pointed out that the train model contracted by Romania is already running in the Czech Republic and added that PESA vehicles will support the development of Romanian railway transport, in a context in which it is desired to increase the presence of the Polish maker in Romania, through cooperation with local partners and the establishment of service and maintenance centers in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Iasi.The units are provided with ETCS level 2 signaling and safety system, as well as with the national PZB 90 system.The total value of the project is 3.038 billion RON, without VAT, and the financing is provided by the Transport Program (PT) 2021 - 2027, with co-financing from the state budget.
