Nine foreigners suspected of terrorist actions removed from Romania, other 246 stopped at border

December 23, 2015

Nine foreign citizens suspected of terrorist actions were declared personae non gratae this year and removed from the national territory by decisions of the Bucharest Court of Appeal, at the proposition of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), other 246 persons being stopped at the border for the same reasons, the SRI spokesman Ovidiu Marincea said. The foreign citizens rejected at the border and declared unwelcome were mainly from Iraq, Palestine, Morocco, Tunisia, Syria, of whom rd 70pct were in connection to or had performed activities for the Islamic State. The number of the persons who are not allowed to enter Romania is on an uptrend, the SRI official added, and this is due to the preventive active measures which both the SRI and the partner services have forged to dilute the risks generated by the phenomena represented by the foreign fighters/returnees. The SRI spokesman specified that given the current security context in Europe, based on the data so far, the National Alert System stays put at cautious blue. "In parallel, the SRI is considering and acts to speeding up the information swap within the cooperation with both its national partners with the SNPCT (National System for Preventing and Combating Terrorism), and its partner services, so that our institution contributes to the approaches at national, international level for the defence of the democratic values," the SRI spokesman concluded.
