The number of dissolved companies in Romania increased by 12.95% in the first half of 2026 to 29,818, from 26,400 in the corresponding period of 2025, according to data centralised by the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).The highest number of company dissolutions was recorded in Bucharest, with 6,402 firms, up 23.81% year-on-year, followed by the counties of Cluj (1,740, up 17.65%), Ilfov (1,552, up 15.39%), Timis (1,325, up 20.56%), Constanta (1,320, up 2.48%), Iasi (1,070, up 11.92%) and Brasov (1,036, up 2.37%).At the other end of the scale, the fewest company dissolutions were recorded in the counties of Mehedinti (146, down 20.22% year-on-year), Ialomita (178, up 42.4%), Covasna (178, up 14.1%), Teleorman (220, up 1.85%), Giurgiu (228, up 6.54%), Harghita (229, up 14.5%) and Calarasi (231, up 47.13%).The sharpest increases in company dissolutions were recorded in Calarasi (up 47.13%), Ialomita (up 42.4%) and Mures (up 33.18%), while the steepest declines were reported in Mehedinti (down 20.22%), Braila (down 9.85%) and Bistrita-Nasaud (down 7.36%).Wholesale and retail trade, including the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, recorded the highest number of company dissolutions in the first six months of 2026, with 5,371 cases nationwide. However, the number of dissolutions in the sector fell by 13.5% compared with the same period of 2025.Other sectors with a high number of company dissolutions were professional, scientific and technical activities (2,091, down 8.05%), construction (1,950, down 15.03%) and transportation and storage (1,732, down 8.6%), the ONRC said.In June 2026 alone, 4,394 company dissolutions were registered, most of them in Bucharest (1,022), followed by the counties of Ilfov (262), Cluj (257), Timis (184), Constanta (174) and Brasov (145).
