A total of 52,741 companies were struck off the register nationwide in the first seven months of 2026, 3.54% more than in the same period of the previous year, according to statistics from the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).The highest number of companies struck off was recorded in Bucharest, at 9,481, up 5.6% compared with January-July 2025, followed by Cluj County (2,721, +4.9%), Timis (2,270, +16.11%), Bihor (2,217, +7.31%), Constanta (2,114, +5.96%), Ilfov (2,083, +14.32%), Iasi (2,021, +7.44%), Brasov (1,665, +4.26%) and Dolj (1,664, +19.37%).At the other end of the scale, the fewest company removals from the register were recorded in Ialomita County (328, up 11.95% compared with the first seven months of 2025), Giurgiu (360, -15.29%), Mehedinti (365, -17.05%), Teleorman (384, -8.79%), Covasna (395, -1.74%) and Calarasi (422, +30.65%).According to the source, significant increases in the number of companies struck off were recorded in Galati County (+31.14%), Calarasi (+30.65%) and Gorj (+25.91%), while the largest declines were reported in Olt (-24.85%), Vrancea (-21.16%) and Bistrita-Nasaud (-20.41%).By sector, the highest number of company de-registration was recorded in wholesale and retail trade and the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, at 10,057 (-13.46% compared with January-July 2025), followed by construction - 3,942 (-7.25%), professional, scientific and technical activities - 3,762 (-10.98%) and transportation and storage - 3,399 (-23.46%).In July 2026, 6,458 companies were struck off the register, with the highest numbers recorded in Bucharest (1,293), followed by Cluj County (416), Timis (280), Ilfov (266) and Bihor (256).
