Parliament Joint Bureaus take note of president Iohannis's letter regarding training of approximately 50 Ukrainian soldiers

The joint bureaus of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate took note, on Monday, of a letter from president Klaus Iohannis, by which he informs the Parliament that he approved the transit of some equipment and material goods donated by Finland to Ukraine and the training of approximately 50 Ukrainian soldiers."In accordance with the provisions of art. 119 of the Constitution of Romania and Law no. 291/2007 regarding the entry, stationing, carrying out of operations or transit of foreign armed forces on the territory of Romania, republished, with subsequent amendments and additions, at the proposal of the prime minister of Romania, after consulting the Supreme Council of National Defense, I approved the transit of the equipment and material goods donated by Finland to Ukraine and the training of approximately 50 Ukrainian military personnel, aiming at the preparation for the knowledge, use and maintenance of the donated equipment," it is stated in the document sent to Parliament by the head of state.The necessary financial funds were secured from the budget allocated to the Ministry of National Defense, which will carry out the steps for the recovery of expenses registered within the mechanism established at the level of the European Union military assistance mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine), the document reads.According to the letter, as a response to the Russian aggression against Ukraine, NATO and European Union support actions continued on multiple levels for Ukraine and its citizens, including efforts of a political-diplomatic, economic, financial, humanitarian or sectoral nature, but also for promoting the application of international law instruments or combating the global food crisis. This course of action led to the consolidation of Euro-Atlantic solidarity and the adaptation of efforts in terms of security and defense policy, from the perspective of increasing resources and operational involvement in the region, the president said.The document was sent to the Defense Committees for information, to be included on the agenda of the next joint plenary of the Parliament.
