Parliament/ Motion of no confidence - tabled in plenary on Thursday; debate and vote on 14 July

August 6, 2025

The censure motion lodged by the AUR MPs will be presented on Thursday in the plenary starting at 10:00 to be debated and voted on Monday, 14th July starting at 3:00 pm, decided the Standing Offices of the Deputies Chamber and the Senate. In this sense, the leadership of the Parliament extended the extraordinary session until 14th July.  The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) is submitting a motion of censure to Parliament after the Government led by Ilie Bolojan assumed responsibility for the first package of fiscal measures to reduce the deficit. The announcement was made on Wednesday by AUR deputy Ramona Bruynseels in a press conference at the Palace of Parliament. The motion submitted is entitled "They ruined the country and now they are forcing Romanians to pay the bill - out with the hypocritical Government".The leader of the AUR deputy group, Mihai Enache, mentioned that the motion was signed by parliamentarians from AUR, S.O.S. Romania, POT and non-affiliated parties.According to Enache, more signatures have been collected than those required for the submission of a motion of censure, but the Opposition does not have the necessary votes for it to be adopted, which is why he urges those who want to block the Government's austerity measures to vote for this motion of censure. He specified that the text of the motion contains passages from the POT and that the president of AUR, George Simion, is the first signatory of the motion.AUR deputy Ramona Bruynseels considers that the motion is one "against a government whose fiscal-budgetary measures will lead Romania to disaster". She highlighted that "the ones who pay are the ordinary people, the vulnerable ones.""That is precisely why we cannot agree with such measures. That is precisely why we cannot join hands with them and we are against this package and against this Government. And it is obvious that this Government must go. That is precisely why we are submitting this motion of censure," added Ramona Bruynseels. In turn, AUR senator Mircia Chelaru believes that the motion of censure "is a cry of despair from a part of the political class aware of the ongoing disaster into which Romanian society has been brought" and "a form of political protest."
