PRESS RELEASE
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu: We still need measures, traffic education, and commitment to reduce the toll of road traffic accidents

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu hosted today, November 20, at the Victoria Palace, the debate #Anastasia Law. The road to life!, an event dedicated to raising awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or without a license.
The event brought together, alongside members of the Government and Senator Robert Cazanciuc, the initiator of the Anastasia Law, representatives of road accident victims associations, civil society, and private companies that support public road safety campaigns.
Fii curat la volan!( Drive clean! ) is a very good motto to be promoted by all of us to raise awareness of the role of prevention and road safety. I thank the big companies, civil society, and Parliament, that reacted in real-time and are joining this effort. I thank Anastasias father who found the strength to get involved, to overcome personal pain to save lives, by launching calls for prevention.
Given that Romania ranks first in Europe in terms of the rate of road deaths, I support the initiative of Mr. Senator Robert Cazanciu to tighten the legislation. Furthermore, legislation does not suffice, we need education and the involvement of the whole society, stated Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
Senator Robert Cazanciuc, the initiator of the Anastasia Law, emphasized the real need for society to have such legislation to protect the supreme value of human beings, namely life, and the Parliaments overwhelming vote.
Folks, dont drive drunk, drugged, or without a license because you will end up in prison. Dont let those around you do this imprudence, because they will end up in prison, the Senator concluded.
According to the #Anastasia Law, which entered into force in June 2023, the suspension of the execution of the penalty under supervision cannot be ordered for the offense of manslaughter caused by driving without a license or under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
The #Anastasia Law. The Road to Life! debate was organized by the Government in the context of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, marked annually on the third Sunday of November.

Speech by Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu at the Anastasia Law. The Road to Life debate, organized in the context of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims

Marcel Ciolacu: Good afternoon! I would like to thank the large companies for their involvement in this project of promoting the Anastasia Law: the NGOs, the pupils, the students, and former Prime Minister Tariceanu. I am very glad that the Romanian Parliament acted very quickly. I thank both my colleagues Robert Cazanciuc and Mr. Fenechiu, for making this laws quick adoption and promulgation a priority. We very much thank Anastasias father, I think nobody wants to be in his place, to endure such a great loss. Nevertheless, he found the strength to get involved and promote this case so that we all see it in the true light of the fact that it was necessary to tighten the legislation for those driving without a license or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Fii curat la volan! (Drive clean!) seems to me a very good motto to be promoted by all of us. We hope that all the media will join us in promoting this case so that the loss of this family, Anastasia's death, will not be in vain and she will not be another figure in the country's statistics.
I think it is an important moment that the big companies, the civil society, and the Parliament reacted in real-time, this time, to such a tragedy and it is obvious that it obliges us, I repeat, especially the gesture of Anastasias father, it obliges me more as a parent than as a prime minister, to get involved even more in this endeavor. This approach is not just for show, it is not a political approach but a normal one for our society in the year 2023. If we had shown in other cases such solidarity, the transformation of Romanian society would have been much faster, thats a step to be followed by all of us at this moment. Thank you very much for coming to Victoria Palace today, we have a common interest this time.
