Statements by Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu after attending the Ziarul Financiar Gala
Reporter: Mr Prime Minister, DNA (National Anti-Corruption Directorate) requested the lifting of immunity for former Prime Minister Florin Cițu and former Health Ministers in the vaccines case. How do you see it?
Marcel Ciolacu: One thing I remember saying when we were in the opposition, while we were at home, big business was being done in Romania. This is one of the businesses, the purchase of vaccines, there are others, remember the isolation stretchers and non-compliant masks. Always finding out the truth makes a society more settled and freer. I have never commented on a magistrates decision; I wont do it this time either. My colleagues will definitely vote for lifting the immunity.
Reporter: Mr Prime Minister, this huge damage of one billion euros...;
Marcel Ciolacu: But you know I talked about it right after the pandemic. They claim it didnt exist. I was insulted, and called names when I said the purchase decision was an aberrant one at the time. We see from the DNAs press release that we had levers for contract terms so that this money would not be lost. We will see, it will be a coordinated negotiation. What I can tell you for certain- there will be no impediment to the whole truth being made public.
Reporter: Will you vote for lifting the immunity of Florin Cițu?
Marcel Ciolacu: I have already announced it. Thank you.
