Paul Stanescu resigns from Government

November 26, 2018

Paul Stanescu announced on Monday that he has resigned from the position of deputy prime minister and minister of Regional Development and Public Administration. “Against the backdrop of events on the public scene, I hereby announce you that today, 26 November, I have submitted my resignation request from the position of deputy prime minister and minister of Regional Development and Public Administration. It was registered with the Secretariat General of the Government under no.16.495/26.11.2018,” Paul Stanescu stated in a statement sent to AGERPRES. At the same time, Paul Stanescu affirmed “he has never clung to any seat” and accepted the term of minister “at the party [Social Democratic party, major at rule, ed.n.] leadership’s insistence.” “I have said it and I repeat it: I am a man of honor, responsible and involved, I have not pursued any personal interest, and have never clung to a seat! As regards my term as minister, I want to say that I barely accepted at the insistence of the party leadership, but as long as I was in office, I did everything I could to exercise my responsibilities at the ministry with responsibility and involvement so that nobody would have anything to reproach me with,” Stanescu said. He also stressed that “the country needs unity and responsible governing.” “I have always aimed at objectives with impact on the population, and my priority as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Development was investment in health infrastructure, education, housing, water and sanitation. I still believe that the country needs unity and responsible governing, I thank all those who have trusted me and supported me, as well as my colleagues from the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration, with whom we have made an extraordinary team!” Stanescu said. Previously, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila had stated that she requested Deputy Prime Minister Paul Stanescu’s resignation from the Gov’t but he refused to act upon it. “Given that I have signed the removal from office, it is natural that we want him changed. It is a closed deal, voted upon in the Executive Committee, I say we look towards the future and see how we can solve this. I have talked about the resignation with Mr. Paul Stanescu, I asked him to do this. Mr Deputy Prime Minister Paul Stanescu would not resign,” Dancila said in Parliament.
