PG Lazar, French counterpart Molins discuss cooperation between the two states’ top prosecution bodies

Judicial cooperation between the Romanian and French Public Prosecutor’s Offices as per the Joint Declaration of Intent signed this year was the subject of talks between Augustin Lazar, chief prosecutor of Romania’s Supreme Court Prosecutor’s Office (PICCJ) and Francois Molins, Prosecutor General of the French Court of Cassation, during a working meeting in Paris on Wednesday, the PICCJ said in a release. “The talks focused on continuing judicial cooperation between the two Prosecutor’s Offices, as per the five-year Joint Declaration of Intent signed on May 15, 2018. The document is intended to facilitate legal and judicial cooperation between France and Romania, as set forth by several bilateral conventions in various fields and represents the first joint declaration of intent between the Romanian and the French Public Prosecutor’s Offices, setting a milestone in the development of Romanian-French judicial cooperation, based on the tradition of common judicial culture,” the release states. Francois Molins accepted PG Augustin Lazar’s invitation to pay a working visit to Romania next year, the release also informs. Augustin Lazar was invited by UNESCO as a speaker to a specialist training seminar for the European judicial authorities, at the event titled “The fight against illicit trafficking in cultural property” organized at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. “Augustin Lazar gave a presentation on ‘Modern instruments of international judicial cooperation in the recovery of cultural property and crime proceeds in the EU. The Romanian experience’,” the Public Prosecutor’s Office informs.
