PM Bolojan: Budget discussions for next year to start within two weeks

December 8, 2025

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced on Friday that the discussions regarding next year's budget will begin within the next two weeks. He responded that way when asked in an interview with the "Europa Libera Romania" website about the stage of preparation of the draft State Budget Law for 2026."In the next two weeks, the budget discussion will begin. We have to be open: the budget will be promoted once the packages which form the basis of a predictable budget are adopted. And if we do not adopt them by mid-December at the latest, there is, unfortunately, a risk for next year's budget to be compromised in terms of deficit targets. And we cannot allow that as a country. I will insist in the immediate period on implementing all projects that set a healthy budget - we respect the milestones, collect our European funds and create conditions to resume healthy economic growth next year, with an economy built on correct foundations, with good laws and a new attitude," PM Ilie Bolojan said.In this context, the Prime Minister mentioned that Romania will observe the commitments it has made regarding the Defence budget."Defence, according to the commitments Romania has undertaken, will need to have a slightly higher budget. Not much higher, because we cannot afford it, but we will honour the commitments Romania has made and we will increase this budget," Bolojan said.(Photo:www.gov.ro)
