The Romanian government announces that it is taking all steps for Romania to fully collect the amount EUR 770 million euros related to the integrity milestone under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR)."The government is taking all steps to make sure that Romania will fully collect the EUR 770,000,000 related to the PNRR milestone regarding the new integrity legislation, as a result of the suspicions that have arisen at European level, but also in Romanian society, regarding the observance of the principles of European law by the new National Integrity Authority (ANI) law," reads a government press statement released on Thursday.Procedurally, the verification of Milestone 431 being met is made after the submission of payment request number 6, which includes this milestone, that is in October. However, the government believes that the verification must be completed "as soon as possible" so that, if inconsistencies of the law with European law are identified, changes in order to align with European law can be made in a timely manner."A timely verification would allow, if necessary, the adoption of any necessary amendments, so as to protect both Romania's financial interests in terms of funds related to Milestone 431, as well as the legal effects of the law. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and Foreign Minister Oana Toiu urged the speeding up of the verification of the compliance of the ANI law with the principles of European law, during a technical meeting, in hybrid format, with the European Commissioner for Justice, Michael McGrath, and with specialized directors," the release reads. The government "categorically" refutes any information in the public space regarding requests or suggestions to cut European funds."On the contrary, it is precisely the absorption of these funds and the full use of the resources available to Romania that is the government's priority. Any non-compliance with European law that is not identified and corrected promptly can generate important risks," the Executive said.
