Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan welcomed on Monday Gerald Darmanin, France's Minister of Justice, at the Victoria Palace. The agenda of discussions focused on modernizing judicial systems, using new technologies in court procedures and the prison reform.According to a Government release, the meeting took place in the context of the ongoing dialogue between the two countries and the 145th anniversary of the Romanian-French diplomatic relations, marked in 2025."The discussions began with cooperation in the area of justice. The two officials addressed the modernisation of judicial systems, the use of new technologies in court procedures, the prison reform and how the two states can collaborate more effectively to combat organised crime, corruption and disinformation," the release said.The meeting also reviewed the bilateral relations between Romania and France, covering areas such as security, defence, economy, transport, research, energy and cooperation at European and NATO levels.An important part of the discussions was represented by European security in the context of the war in Ukraine.The Prime Minister and the French Minister discussed about regional risks and how the cooperation between Romania and France contributes to strengthening the Eastern Flank, highlighting the work of NATO's Battle Group at Cincu, where France serves as the framework nation."The two dignitaries agreed that Russia's aggression against Ukraine requires a closer coordination, both between Romania and France and with other European states, regarding efforts to achieve a lasting peace, as well as measures to counter cyberattacks, hybrid threats and disinformation campaigns," according to the release.In the economic area, Prime Minister Bolojan emphasised France's role as one of Romania's most important investors and trading partners, appreciating the growing interest of French companies in high value-added projects in areas such as IT&C, aerospace, energy, agriculture and advanced technologies."The two officials also discussed the domestic political situation in Romania and France, as well as developments at European level, stressing the importance of cooperation in a period marked by external pressures and rapid changes," the quoted source said.At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan expressed his desire to continue the close cooperation with France across all these areas.The meeting was also attended by State Advisor Luminita Odobescu, Secretary of State Dragos Hotea and French Ambassador to Romania Nicolas Warnery.
