December 8, 2025

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan presented the Government's economic and security priorities on Wednesday during the meeting with the heads of mission of EU member states and of the European Commission, organised in the context of Denmark's holding of the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union (second half of 2025).According to a Government press release, the Prime Minister congratulated the Danish Presidency of the Council, already well advanced in its mandate, for its efforts in two key areas of European action: security and defence, and economic development and competitiveness.'In his address, the Prime Minister presented the economic and security priorities of the Romanian Government. In the economic area, these are focused on restoring Romania to a fiscal framework that stabilises the country's finance and creates the conditions for development and economic growth in the coming years. The current emphasis is on measures to reduce the budget deficit, the implementation of the revised PNRR, which will continue to support investments in infrastructure, hospitals, digitalisation, green energy and the modernisation of the administration, as well as the continuation of the administrative reform process,' the press release reads. At the same time, regarding the strengthening of Romania's security, the Government's objective is to modernise the army's equipment and to revive the Romanian defence industry, including by making use of the opportunities offered by the SAFE programme, under which Romania benefits from a significant allocation.'In this context, Romania is engaged in developing its national industry through technology transfer as well as investment in civil-military infrastructure,' the press release reads. The Prime Minister also emphasised that the security of the Black Sea remains a major priority for Romania and that the adoption of the EU Strategy sends a particularly important political message regarding the relevance granted to the region, especially given the destabilising impact of Russian aggression.Romania will continue to support Ukraine, including efforts leading to a lasting and just peace, the statement added. In addition, in the context of the recent launch by the European Commission of the 2025 Enlargement Package, the Prime Minister said that Romania supports the enlargement process and that solutions must be found so that the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine can open the clusters within their EU accession negotiations as soon as possible.Regarding the EU's economic agenda, the Government supports the Union's initiatives to boost European competitiveness focused on simplifying legislation, ensuring energy security through better interconnection between member states - particularly in electricity - and guaranteeing acceptable energy prices."Furthermore, flexible solutions for decarbonisation must also be found, so that it does not affect the companies competitiveness or citizens," the source mentions. The final point concerned accession to the OECD, with the Prime Minister thanking the member states for their constant support in achieving Romania's objective of joining in 2026.  (Photo: https://gov.ro/)
