PM Ciuca: Bulgaria - Greece Inter-connector completion, construction of 5 bridges over the Danube, addressed in Sofia

April 27, 2022

Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca specifies that during the discussions with his Bulgarian counterpart, Kiril Petkov, the situation of the Bulgaria- Greece Inter-connector and the construction of five bridges over the Danube were approached. The statement was made at the end of a bilateral meeting, held on the sidelines of the meeting of the Heads of Government of NATO allied states in South-Eastern Europe."In the bilateral meeting I had with the Prime Minister of the Bulgarian Government, we discussed the issues related to the way in which he works together with the Greek side at the completion of the Inter-connector between Bulgaria and Greece. I have received assurances that all these works will be completed this summer, in June, and then the testing process will follow, so that in the autumn of this year we can benefit from the transit of liquefied gas that can be refuelled in the Port of Alexandroupolis, in Greece. We also discussed issues related to what it could mean in increasing the capacity of gas supply on the Trans-Balkan pipeline. All these are opportunities and possibilities that can be used not only for Romania and Bulgaria, but also for the other countries in Europe," Ciuca said in a press statement.Nicolae Ciuca mentioned that another subject of discussion was represented by the road and railway infrastructure, a context in which the Bulgarian side proposed the construction of five bridges over the Danube."We discussed the Bulgarian side's proposal to build at least five bridges over the Danube River and we insisted on what it means to start the process of dredging the Danube River, so that we can ensure navigation throughout the year. We also discussed with the Bulgarian prime minister our request that ethnic Romanians living in Bulgaria be able to study in Romanian," Nicolae Ciuca added.
