PM Dancila meets delegations of German MPs and MEPs: Romania to act impartially at EU Council’s presidency helm

The success of Romania’s presidency of the European Union’s Council will be the success of the 27 Member States, and our country will act as an impartial mediator, on Thursday said Prime Minister Viorica Dancila at a meeting with a delegations of German MPs and MEPs, the Gov’t informs in a press release. “The success of Romania’s presidency of the Council of the European Union will be the success of the 27 Member States, that has to give a good sign for the EU’s future. In our mandate, we will act as an impartial mediator, because it is essential to enhance consensus at European level,” the Bucharest Gov’t’s head asserted. During the meeting at the Victoria Palace, talks addressed the bilateral cooperation and its strengthening, in the context of Romania’s taking over the presidency of the EU Council as of 1 January 2019. Prime minister stressed that Romania is ready to take over and exercise this mandate, wherein challenges such as the Brexit, the future of Europe, the finalisation of a consensus on the future multiannual framework, will be approached and traditional European policies’ files such as the Cohesion Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy, alongside those regarding the migration, the defence and terrorism policy, will be taken care of. The head of the Executive also said that the strengthening of the bilateral cooperation between Romania and Germany is important, at the political and governmental level, by establishing faster dialogue mechanisms and jointly sustaining certain initiatives, the release adds. “The German delegation’s officials appreciated the preparations’ stage of Romania to taking over and exercising the EU Council’s rotating presidency, stressing that they have all openness to granting support to our country,” the source mentions. Minister Delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu, the MEPs Dan Nica and Victor Bostinaru and MP Florin Manole were attending the meeting on behalf of Romania, alongside Axel Schafer, Jens Geier, Matthias Keil and Stephan Meuser, on Germany’s behalf.
