President Nicusor Dan said on Friday that any peace plan must have Ukraine's approval, and the international community that wants a rules-based order is willing to continue to defend this country. The president was asked for his opinion on the peace plan proposed by the United States and the Russian Federation, which would offer Ukraine guarantees similar to NATO's Article 5."Any peace plan must be approved by the country in question, by Ukraine. So we are all looking at Ukraine now - all of us, meaning the international community that wants a rules-based international order, who are obviously willing to continue to defend Ukraine and implicitly both the security of Europe and the rules-based international order," the head of the state said.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pleaded on Thursday for a "dignified peace," while the United States has circulated a draft plan, seen by AFP, which notably provides for Kyiv to relinquish the eastern regions of Donetsk and Lugansk to Russia, AFP comments.According to the draft, these two regions claimed by Moscow, as well as the Crimean Peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014, would be "de facto recognized as Russian, including by the United States." The security of Romania and of all of Europe depends on the conditions of the future peace in Ukraine and on the subsequent arrangements, President Nicusor Dan wrote on X on Friday, stressing he is ''monitoring with the greatest attention the most recent developments concerning the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine.''''I welcome first and foremost President Donald J. Trump's renewed efforts to advance toward a sustainable ceasefire and toward the formula of a negotiated and sustainable peace. It is also a good opportunity to reaffirm that the security of Romania and of all of Europe depends on the conditions of the future peace in Ukraine and on the subsequent arrangements. I join the message of other European leaders who have assured Ukraine today of their continued support. Supporting Ukraine's sovereignty, alongside the USA, seems equally important to me as well. We are living through an important moment that demands from all of us maturity, vision, and courage. The circumstances demonstrate more than ever the importance of an intense and honest transatlantic dialogue, in the spirit of solidarity among allies and of complementarity of interests between the EU and NATO. Last but not least, it is important for me to reaffirm that we are also evaluating the current dynamics from the perspective of the security, stability, and prosperity interests of the Republic of Moldova, which are of utmost importance to Romania,'' President Dan wrote on X platform.
