President Dan: Economic measures are a provisional thing

July 14, 2025

President Nicusor Dan said on Monday that the measures to narrow the government deficit in Romania are provisional."I want to tell Romanians that it is a provisional issue, that Romania has economic potential. As I have said several times, at the end of 2026, if we don't make mistakes, we will join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which will make Romania interesting to foreign investors," Dan told a news conference at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace. He added that the Romanian economy has a potential for development "as soon as we get over this short period of recovery.""I want to assure investors and financial markets that we are serious people and that when I promise that we will make reforms, we will make them, so that Romania's financial situation recovers," said Dan.   Romania's Presidential Administration will reduce its own budget by 20% at the budget revision, President Nicusor Dan said on Monday at a news conference."When the budget revision for 2025 comes, the Presidential Administration will propose a 20% reduction in its own budget, in order to participate in this collective effort," said Dan.He added that the cut means some RON 20 million.Asked if that also means cutting his pay, Dan said: "The large amounts are important (...). For the moment there is no such intention." (Photo:https://www.presidency.ro/)
