President Dan had discussion with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann

October 9, 2025

Accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is the strongest international recognition that we live in a developed country, President Nicusor Dan said on Monday.'Today I had an excellent discussion with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann. The OECD is the organisation that brings together the world's most developed economies and most consolidated democracies. It also sets global standards and benchmarks in areas such as trade, finance and technology,' the head of state wrote on Facebook.According to him, for Romania, accession to the OECD is a strategic goal because 'it is the strongest international recognition that we live in a developed country, and the experience of other nations shows that accession has been followed by significant economic progress.'The president also noted that the process would make Romania more competitive in attracting foreign investment, would increase interest from institutional investors, and would allow the country to secure more favourable financing to direct more resources toward national development.'Romania's accession process is progressing very well: more than half of the technical assessments have already been successfully completed. If we maintain this pace, Romania will join the OECD next year,' the President of Romania said.OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann is in Romania on Monday. In the morning, Cormann met with President Nicusor Dan, and later visited Victoria Governmental Palace. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and Mathias Cormann held talks and participated in a meeting of the National Committee for Romania's Accession to the OECD.The OECD official also met with Senate President Mircea Abrudean and Chamber of Deputies Speaker Sorin Grindeanu.
