President Dan has phone conversation with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky

June 14, 2026

President Nicusor Dan had a phone conversation on Friday with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, agreeing to accelerate Romanian-Ukrainian cooperation on the joint production of rapid-deployment drones."I had a conversation today with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, following the incident caused by a Russian drone in Galati, the most serious on Romanian territory since the beginning of the war of aggression unleashed by Russia against Ukraine. (...) Together with President Zelensky, we agreed to accelerate cooperation between Romania and Ukraine on the joint production of drones that can be rapidly deployed. Ukraine's battlefield experience and drone technology are strategic assets for the defence of the entire Eastern Flank. Romania continues to invest in strengthening NATO's eastern flank and in supporting Ukraine in its legitimate pursuit of self-defence," the Romanian head of state wrote on Facebook. The president stressed that "Russia must put an end to the attacks and engage in meaningful dialogue for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.""As our allies and partners in Europe and around the world stated today, Russia's aggression does not stop at borders. By continuing its attacks on Ukraine and threatening neighboring NATO members, Russia shows complete disregard for international law and for the lives of innocent civilians. This has to stop," President Nicusor Dan said.On Friday, the president visited in hospital the child and woman injured in Galati after the military drone crash on a block of flats (photo).
