President Dan on CCR's ruling regarding ANI Law:Arguments in challenge of unconstitutionality are very solid

September 9, 2026

On Tuesday, President Nicusor Dan issued an initial reaction regarding the Constitutional Court's ruling on the Integrity Law, emphasizing that the arguments in his challenge of unconstitutionality were very solid."Regarding yesterday's Constitutional Court ruling on the integrity law, I believe the arguments in my challenge regarding its constitutionality were very solid. However, I am awaiting the Court's reasoning to understand the opposing view. I have maintained my position even after the Constitutional Court issued its reasoning on other challenges of mine that were rejected. Once the reasoning is released, the law will go to Parliament for debate and only then reach me. I hope we can complete the legislative process by August 31, the deadline set by the PNRR," wrote Nicusor Dan on his X page.On August 10, President Nicusor Dan challenged the Law on Amending and Supplementing Certain Normative Acts in the Field of Integrity before the Constitutional Court. The referral regarding unconstitutionality, posted on the Presidential Administration's website, stated that the Law?by virtue of its normative content?had been adopted in violation of certain constitutional norms and principles. On Monday, the Constitutional Court declared unconstitutional the phrase "person having a relationship similar to that between spouses" found in the ANI Law?a matter also referred to the Court by the President?but ruled as constitutional an amendment to the act stipulating that elected officials found to be in a state of incompatibility or conflict of interest lose their offices.By a majority vote, the Constitutional Court declared constitutional the statutory provision stipulating the automatic termination of a public office or dignity 30 days after the law's entry into force.USR representatives have claimed that this amendment introduced into the law targets the party's president, Dominic Fritz, who is subject to a final ruling regarding a conflict of interest and could lose his position as mayor of the municipality of Timisoara.
