President Dan: Romania's commitments to Ukraine to be submitted to Parliament

January 14, 2026

Romania is ready to contribute to the continued multidimensional support to Ukraine and to strengthening security in the Black Sea region, President Nicusor Dan declared after participating on Tuesday in the Coalition of the Willing summit hosted in Paris by French President Emmanuel Macron, which was also attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky."We agreed on the need for continued support for Ukraine and strong security guarantees, preventing another war in our region. Peace negotiations have reached a critical phase and our unity and coordination are more important than ever. All participants in the #CotW strongly support US-led efforts. Our common aim is to achieve a just and lasting peace, based on respect for international law," Nicusor Dan wrote on X.At a press conference held at the Romanian Embassy in Paris, President Nicusor Dan stated that during the Coalition of the Willing meeting, a military document was drafted setting out how security guarantees for Ukraine will be implemented, how responsibilities will be divided, and who will coordinate them.     Romania's security guarantee commitments to Ukraine will be submitted to Parliament, President Nicusor Dan said on Tuesday evening."Romania pledged essentially the same things as before - specifically no troops in Ukraine and logistical support, training for Ukrainian servicemen in Romania or in other European countries in collaboration with the armies of the respective states, joint armament programs, things that you already know. This is where we stand today, so that today's document does not remain a simple declaration of intent. For each country, including Romania, these commitments will be submitted to Parliament," the head of state told a press conference in Paris.Nicusor Dan stressed that details regarding support for Ukraine will not be made public."When you talk about military operations, you cannot say: a plane will land at 4:30 p.m., carrying certain equipment, and from there it will be hauled by some trucks that will pass through specific customs points. This is the reason why many of the actions carried out by Romania and by other countries for Ukraine have remained confidential. The same applies now. When we go to Parliament, we will pass generic elements such as the training of Ukrainian soldiers from certain army branches, but we will not specify how many or where," explained President Dan.The Romanian head of state participated on Tuesday in the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing hosted in Paris by French President Emmanuel Macron, and which was also attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The purpose of the meeting in France was to define security guarantees for Ukraine once peace is achieved.   (Photo:https://www.presidency.ro/)
