Romania is ready to shoulder a greater share of its own defence - raising our commitments and delivering on them, President Nicusor Dan wrote on X, after a meeting with Congressman Mike Rogers, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee and Congressman Eric Sorensen, a member of this Committee.The head of state said it was a pleasure to meet the two Congressmen at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, pointing out that the base is the hub of the US military presence in Romania and a tangible expression of the defence and security cooperation.According to the post, the discussions highlighted the strategic importance of the Black Sea region for transatlantic security and the need to further strengthen collective deterrence and resilience.The president also conveyed that Romania is ready to shoulder a greater share of its own defence - raising commitments and delivering on them.Moreover, he mentioned that also reviewed were a wide range of priorities within the Strategic Partnership, reaffirming our shared commitment to advancing cooperation in the economy, defence industry, energy, infrastructure, critical minerals and emerging technologies.Strengthening and expanding the US economic and military presence in Romania is a priority for the bilateral partnership, for the security of the Black Sea region, and for the unity of the Transatlantic Alliance, Nicusor Dan highlighted.On Saturday, the US Congress delegation was welcomed by interim Foreign Minister Oana Toiu.
