Presidential election calendar: Candidacies to be submitted by March 15, campaign to start April 4

The Government adopted on Tuesday the decision that establishes the electoral calendar for the presidential election on May 4.Government spokesperson,Mihai Constantin said that, according to the normative act, the electoral period will begin on February 18, with the public announcement of the date for the draw of the five judges from the High Court of Cassation and Justice who will be part of the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC). The designation of the five judges will take place by February 20, and the BEC will be established by February 22."The deadline for submitting candidacies to the BEC by political parties, political and electoral alliances, organisations of citizens belonging to national minorities and independent candidates is March 15, 2025, at 24:00. The electoral campaign will start 30 days before the election date, namely on April 4, 2025, and will end on May 3, 2025, at 7:00," said Constantin.According to him, voting in Romania will take place on May 4, starting at 7:00 and ending at 21:00. Voters who are at the polling station or in line to vote at 21:00 will be able to exercise their electoral right until 23:59 at the latest.Mihai Constantin mentioned that voting abroad will take place over three days: May 2 and 3, from 7:00 local time to 21:00 local time, with those at the polling station or in line able to vote until 23:59. On May 4, voting will be from 7:00 local time to 21:00 local time, as long as it does not exceed Romania's time. "At 21:00, Romania's time, voting will close in all polling stations, including those abroad," he emphasised.The Government spokesperson explained that the vote for a possible second round of the presidential election will take place on May 18, from 7:00 to 21:00, with those at the polling station or in line being able to vote until 23:59.He indicated that voting abroad for the second round will take place over three days, under the same conditions as the first round.
