The electoral campaign for the presidential elections kicks off on Friday, with the 11 candidates registered in the race for Cotroceni being set to try to convince the Romanians to elect them to the highest office in the Romanian state until May 3.According to the Constitution (art. 81), the president of Romania is elected by universal, equal, direct, secret and freely expressed vote (item 1). The candidate who has obtained, in the first round of voting, the majority of the votes of the voters registered on the electoral lists (item 2) is declared elected. If none of the candidates has obtained this majority, a second round of voting is organized, between the first two candidates established depending on the number of votes obtained in the first round. The candidate who obtained the highest number of votes is declared elected (item 3). No person may serve as president of Romania for more than two terms. These may also be consecutive (item 4).The president of Romania represents the Romanian state and is the guarantor of the national independence, unity and territorial integrity of the country (art 80, item 1). The president of Romania ensures compliance with the Constitution and the proper functioning of public authorities.
