Primary energy and electricity resources, down in first half year, electricity consumption up by 0.8 pct

Romania's primary energy resources decreased by 2.9%, in the first six months of the current year, compared to the same period in 2023, and those of electric energy decreased by 1.5%, according to the data published on Tuesday , by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).In the analysed interval, the main primary energy resources totaled 15.658 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), down by 472,200 toe.Also, domestic production amounted to 8.535 million tep, down by 505,800 tep (-5.6%), from one year to another, while import was 7.123 million, up by 33,600 tep (+0, 5%).According to the cited source, in the first semester of 2024, electricity resources totaled 33.221 billion kWh, down by 501.4 million kWh compared to the period from January 1 to June 30, 2023.At the same time, production from thermal power plants was 8.351 billion kWh, down by 30.9 million kWh (-0.4%), and production from hydropower plants was 8.631 billion kWh, 24.1% below the level of the first six months of last year.The production from nuclear power plants amounted to 5.178 billion kWh, down by 166.7 million kWh (-3.1%), compared to the analysis interval.At the same time, the production from wind power plants was 3.414 billion kWh, down by 581 million kWh, and the solar energy produced in photovoltaic installations reached 1.673 billion kWh, up by 643.9 million kWh, compared to last in June of 2023.Overall, in the first half of this year, the final consumption of electricity was 24.765 billion kWh, 0.8% higher compared to the same period in 2023. In the context, the final consumption in the economy increased by 0, 8%, population consumption increased by 0.7% and public lighting decreased by 3.8%.The export of electricity was 5.875 billion kWh, down by 557.3 million kWh, and the own technological consumption in networks and stations was at 2.580 billion kWh, lower by 131 million kWh.
